“Fantasia” This is one on my favorites. I had fun working on my ‘animation’ skills by making the mop walk.  When I created the first ‘Fantasia’ for Common Ground, this was the first strip in which one of my characters lived in a two parallel worlds, one real and one fantasy. I started imaging Celeste having a creative mind like Bill Watterson’s Calvin. A world where her anxieties and fears take physical shape, a world where Celeste has alter egos, a world only she inhabits. Suddenly the writing possibilities opened up for Celeste. That is perhaps of all the comic strips and characters I created in high school and college, Celeste is the one I chose to try to syndicate.

“Drooling” I originally did this back from my freshman year in college, over 15 years ago. I sat next to this cute girl named Mary or Jane or something in one of my classes my freshman year. I had a small day dream fantasy in which she put her head on my shoulder and fell asleep. If she drooled a bit, I would have a quick smooth line to use. Anyways, that’s where this idea came from and I thought it was good enough to recycle two more times.

“Dawn Carleone” Not much difference between the two, except I thought it would be better if Paige delivered the punchline as the boss is much too serious, and should install fear in the staff rather than joke around with them.

“Bless You” I enjoyed drawing this strip the first time and I wanted the body language to be more dramatic the second time I drew it. I always enjoy the back and forth dialogue between Paige and Dave. There is obvious some sexual tension between the two, but unfortunately, they seem to annoy each other more than they are attracted to each other. I have no idea why Dave is angry in the last panel. Paige buried his head in her breast in the penultimate panel so he got to cop a feel.

This is a strip I made during my college days. I didn’t think it was good enough to recycle into Something about Celeste, but I wanted to show it anyways, if only to compare and contrast my art style had been from then to now. In the first one is Diane, Celeste’s college roommate, and Janus, their perverted friend/frenemy. Diane was a fiery character and would easily speak her mind. In the second version, I replaced them with Celeste and Dave. I picture Celeste as too sweet, and it is hard to imagine her as ever uttering the reply “I’ll go out on a date with you when Hell freezes over.”  Therefore, the strip didn’t sit well with me, so I axed it.
